Cardamom is one of the world’s most ancient spices. It originates from the forests of the western ghats in southern India, where it was found growing wild over 4000 years ago. The ancient Egyptians chewed cardamom seeds as a tooth cleanser and used it in embalming rituals, the Greeks and Romans used it in perfumes, and the Vikings brought it from Constantinople to Scandinavia, where it remains popular to this day.
Cardamom is an expensive spice, second only to saffron. The seeds are highly aromatic with warm, sweet camphorous flavors and lemony undertones.
At TLV, you can taste cardamom in everything from our Turkish Coffee to our housemade hawaiej and shawarma spice blends.
Meet Serbio "El-Chaparo", our jack of all trades. He's the kind of cook that every kitchen should have. Not only does he master our busy plancha and fry stations, make our delicious sandwiches and hummus plates, and is a master organizer, he's also our kitchen joker!
No matter how tired or moody one is, he always makes us laugh and sometimes cry...from laughing so hard.
His phrases have become staples in our daily conversations and we all love using his punchlines.
We love you Serbio, our kitchen would not be nearly as much fun without you!
You've gotta try our Chicken Hawaij Hummus! We sear chicken thighs on the plancha and season with hawaij, a Yemenite spice blend, adding grilled onion to pay homage to the flavors of shawarma. Served with green tahini, amba, and schug. Are you craving TLV yet?
